The Yoga Sala
Our yoga sala is one of the most unique and iconic spaces to practice yoga in Sri Lanka. Perched on an island in our private lake, the circular structure of the hut is ideal for group practice, with a capacity of roughly 20 people in a circle. There are no columns inside the hut and the conical shape of the roof can really act as a guide while you practice. One of the most distinct elements is the rammed mud floor, which literally earths you.
Wonderfully exposed and open to the elements, our yoga sala was designed and built for both serious practice and as a space to create and commune in.
Personalised, flexible retreats
Retreats at The Mudhouse are not simple ‘off the shelf’ solutions. Each retreat is different and unique, with its own set of requirements we can adapt to.
In close partnership with retreat organisers, we can plan the individual elements that combine to deliver a very special experience. Menus, meal times, hut allocations, excursions and activities can all be planned together and delivered as an overall package to keep things as simple as possible for both students and organisers to enable them to truly concentrate on their event and their practice.
Versatile Accommodation Options
While our accommodation is split into five units for the purpose of the ‘hotel’ side of what we do, our huts are actually much more versatile in how they can be allocated if you book the entire property. With close and careful communication between ourselves and retreat organisers, we can ensure that all our huts are setup and allocated in a way that will best benefit your group. With so many different structures and bed configurations possible, we will work with you to create a magical and welcoming backdrop for you and your group to switch off from the outside world and push the boundaries of your practice.
All you need
Healthy meals, fresh snacks, fruits, teas and coffees, drinking water and excursions are included in the price at The Mudhouse, so there are no hidden extras to be paid for at the end.
One of the most alluring aspects of our space as a retreat venue is the absence of any need to use money on a day to day basis. Once booked, everything is included in the price. While this may result in a slightly higher upfront cost, you can plan with total confidence regarding overall trip costs, again providing clarity and simplicity for both organisers and students alike.
Angampora
Angampora is the ancient martial art of Sri Lanka and The Mudhouse is the only lodge in the country able to offer expert tuition on a private basis. From a few hours training to a full-time two week retreat course, we can open the door of the wide world of Angampora for our clients or groups.
The Mudhouse is proud to be a partner of the Sri Lanka Traditional Martial Arts Association (STIMA) and to function as their preferred retreat centre in Sri Lanka.

School Trips & Educational Retreats
The Mudhouse also offers detailed and dynamic retreats for schools and universities. From a simple weekend school trip to a carefully curated school retreat that fits into a specific educational curriculum, we are honored to work with some inspirational retreat leaders to create a very unique and fulfilling framework for adventure and learning.
Off-grid living, away from screens and always-on internet can help create an engaging learning environment where new perspectives and ideas can flourish. Previous retreats have concentrated on the Sustainability of the Self, and included practical design and build workshops coupled with an introduction to yoga and yogic concepts.

Barefoot Weddings & Events
Our yoga sala can also be used for romantic barefoot weddings, celebrations and retreats with a difference.
Company meetings, belly dancing classes, enneagram courses, sound healing retreats, mindfulness retreats, coaching retreats and acroyoga immersions have all been held at The Mudhouse. Our space(s) can be adapted to suit very specific and diverse needs, while our laid back yet attentive service ensures you are supported all the way.
If you are interested in having a jungle wedding, The Mudhouse can offer an unforgettable and carefully planned and executed event. Importantly, we only offer ceremonial weddings and can not provide legal registration services.

Ayurveda
The ancient herbal medicne system of Sri Lanka and southern India, Ayurveda is another powerful element to add into a retreat. The Mudhouse is partnered with group of Ayurvedic doctors who can visit The Mudhouse to provide treatments for retreat guests. Depending on the requirements of the retreat, the doctors can also setup an ayurvedic treatment centre in one of our huts, including herbal oil drips and leafy steam baths.
